Prepare titles for a real Wii U or Cemu
The required output differs for a console and for Cemu. WiiUDownloader configures the right format during setup - no separate conversion tool needed.
For a real Wii U console
Keep the contents encrypted: leave Decrypt Contents and “Delete encrypted contents after decryption” off. The package suits compatible Wii U homebrew setups via tools such as NUSspli. Download the base game and any update; DLC is optional.

Enable Decrypt Contents. You can also delete the encrypted files afterwards if you no longer need them. The decrypted output uses the structure Cemu expects:

For both Wii U and Cemu
Enable Decrypt Contents but leave “Delete encrypted contents after decryption” disabled. One download then yields both the encrypted package the Wii U needs and the decrypted files Cemu requires.
No WUA or WUX image is created or required for the standard workflow.

Install and launch WiiUDownloader
Download the official package for your OS and open the application.
Select regions and target platform
The setup assistant asks which regional libraries to show and whether downloads are for Cemu, a Wii U console or both. Change it later in Preferences.
Find the titles you need
Search by name or Title ID, and filter by games, updates, DLC, demos or region.
Build and download the queue
Add one or more titles to the queue and choose a local destination folder.
Install or import the files
Keep the encrypted package for a real Wii U, use the decrypted folders with Cemu, or retain both.
Avoid the common mistakes
Match decryption to the destination
Cemu needs decrypted files; a real Wii U needs the encrypted package. Don’t delete encrypted files if you still want the console install.
Download required game updates
A base game can fail to launch or return to the Wii U Menu without its update. Check for one before you call a download complete.
Keep regions consistent
The game, update and DLC should share the same region. Mixing regional releases can cause install or launch problems.
Confirm available storage
Large queues need real disk space - especially when you keep both encrypted and decrypted copies.
Avoid ordinary USB flash drives
The Wii U’s USB behaviour wears common flash drives out fast. Use a properly powered external hard drive instead.
Keep the folder structure intact
Cemu expects the code, content and meta folders exactly as WiiUDownloader creates them. Renaming, splitting or moving files out of that structure can stop a title from installing or launching.

Does WiiUDownloader work with Cemu?
Yes. WiiUDownloader can decrypt downloaded content into the code, content and meta folder structure used by Cemu. The title can then be installed in Cemu by selecting its meta.xml file or meta directory.
Can downloaded files be used on a real Wii U console?
Yes. For a real Wii U, the encrypted download files must be retained. They can be used with compatible Wii U homebrew installation tools. The exact process depends on the console’s configuration and installed software.
What is the difference between encrypted and decrypted files?
Encrypted files are intended for a real Wii U and commonly include .app, .h3, ticket and metadata files. Decrypted files contain the code, content and meta directories expected by Cemu. WiiUDownloader can keep either format or both.
Can WiiUDownloader prepare files for both Wii U and Cemu?
Yes. Enable content decryption but leave automatic deletion of encrypted files disabled. This creates the decrypted version required by Cemu while preserving the encrypted package needed for a real Wii U. Keeping both formats needs more storage.
